The Vermont Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Andrew Crust.

In Sunday’s (4/6) Rutland Herald (Vermont), Jim Lowe writes, “Vermont has long been generous to the classical music world, and two of the state’s greatest gifts are returning to share their artistry. Born in Randolph and only 42, Nico Muhly has become one of the country’s most prodigious composers, with two Metropolitan Opera premieres and a vast array of other works … Pianist Adam Tendler, also 42, born and bred in Barre, has become a revered champion of new music in New York and around the world…. It took the Vermont Symphony Orchestra to bring them together in their home state. Tendler will perform the world premiere of Muhly’s piano concerto ‘Sounding’ May 4 at The Flynn in Burlington, co-commissioned by the VSO and New Jersey Symphony…. As an introduction to the Muhly-Tendler collaboration, Tendler will perform a series of short pieces for solo piano by the composer when TURNmusic presents ‘The Adam Tendler Residency,’ in partnership with the VSO on April 11 and 14 … in Waterbury…. ‘ “Sounding” is written for Nico’s home state, premiered by a friend, commissioned by his home state orchestra,’ Tendler said.” Led by Music Director Andrew Crust, the concert also includes works by Missy Mazzoli, Josquin Des Pres, and Mozart.
